Instagram is testing a brand-new feature that enables creators to tag products in posts which directly connect followers to a shop to purchase the item.
The addition lets celebrities and influencers tag an item they are wearing or holding, but instead of spending time searching for the product, Instagram users are now redirected to the product page straightaway.
Previously, only brands were able to tag products after Instagram launched its shopping functionalities back inn 2016. Since then, it has expanded its in-app shopping experience to include the popular Stories format.
Late last year, the company added an option for users to save shoppable posts which they could return to later to make a purchase.
Instagram does not take a revenue cut from its checkout process for creators. Instead, creators are required to use the Instagram Checkout beta, which includes a selling fee for the retailer.
It’s not clear when the feature will officially go live. For now, the company said it will be testing the tool with a small selection of creators.
